CSUSM TPEThere are a total of six TPE’s or Teaching Performance Expectations. TPE’s were t developed, for beginning teachers getting their credential, to describe what a beginning teacher should be able to demonstrate such as knowledge, skills, and the abilities.
The first TPE is Making Subject matter Comprehensible to students aka you as a teacher make sure that you are teaching a standard and your students should be able to understand it. Assessing Student Learning is the next TPE. This TPE allows the teacher to monitor student progress through testing and other assessments. Standards need to be meet, so that teacher must either re-teach or move on depending on student response. Engaging and Supporting Students in Learning, is the third TPE. With this TPE it tells you to engage your students, make learning fun and create different learning environments for every type of learner in the classroom. The fourth TPE, Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for students, has teachers learning about their students academically. Sometimes it is a good idea to know where someone is at academically before you teach them so you can accommodate their needs. This always doesn't happen right away and that is normal, that just means when you find out about your students’ needs accommodate them A.S.A.P. The fifth TPE, Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning, means you allow for instructional time as well as a social environment so your students can talk to one another and not be afraid to ask a question. A student should always feel comfortable in the classroom, as their teacher, rules need to be set to ensure everyones’ safety. The last TPE, Developing as a Professional Educator, means you are always learning, always taking classes or going to seminars for teachers. There are so many different options in teaching coming up every day. It is important to keep up with technology and the world as it affects education. |
