Standard 4
When promoting and modeling digital citizenship and responsibility it is crucial that you as a teacher know what digital citizenship and responsibility is. Digital citizenship is when you are appropriate and responsible when it comes to using technology. Therefore as a teacher you must, advocate, model and teach safe, legal and ethical use of digital information and technology, address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies, promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions, and develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures.
In order to advocate, model and teach safe, legal and ethical use of digital information and technology, you must know the 9 elements of Digital Citizenship. The nine elements are; digital access, digital commerce, digital communication, digital literacy, digital etiquette, digital law, digital rights & responsibilities, digital health & wellness, and digital security (self protection.) There were four topics that stood out to me which were digital access, digital literacy, digital law, and digital health and wellness. I have created a Powtoon (Item 7) to go a little more in depth of what these four mean. These elements are great to know and to teach your students. I never really knew or thought of all of these except copyright laws.
Addressing the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources is very important when ti comes to teaching. You want to be sure that your students are learning and retaining information rather than just having it “go in on ear and out the other.” Creating quizzes via kahoot.it (Item 3) is a perfect example. As their teacher, you get to create questions that your students should know and they have to answer them using a computer, phone or anything that has internet access. Now if not everyone has access, have your students write down their answer and show it to you. Kahoot is a very fun game and makes learning fun for you and your students.
Using search.creativecommons.org (Item 8) it allows you to promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. Creative commons is a website where you are able to search media, images, websites, that are licensed specifically for you to use in your work. It is a safe way to reuse items and prevents plagiarism.
Twitter (Item 9), allows you to develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures. You are able to connect with educators around the world and even students via Twitter. It allows you to browse topics and see what everyone is talking about. For events, you can even share an idea with a hashtag # symbol so others with that same hashtag # can see what your thoughts were. I created a Twitter account for the first time ever and enjoyed using it to connect with other classmates and the professor. I got to learn how to use a new tool and find it very cool especially to stay connected with other educators. Connect with me and view my twitter account at https://twitter.com/HeidiReinholtz!

Item 8:Creative CommonsI experienced using this site to create a video I had to make. It was very neat to be able to safely use images and or clips.
